Tell Her About Her Magic
Today, I learned how to communicate with my daughter - I know. 7 Years. But today I understood, finally, how to speak to her in a language that she understands, when I am desperately trying to get her to see that I am here For Her.
We immerse her in a world of magic, and healing and energies, and gifts, and power, but yet when we are frustrated and trying to get her to see that she does not need to fight us on E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. when she gets angry, she challenges us and breathes fire like any self respecting child would.
So today, I put down my Mama Ego for a moment, the one that tells me that I always know what’s best, and I allowed spirit to guide me.
Spirit Said: Ask her “Do you not trust us?”
So I asked and naturally, she said “Yes I trust you!” through angry tears.
Spirit Said: Go to her
So I went
Spirit Said: Do not tower over her, get to her level
I went to my knees
Spirit Said: Ask her if she is deeply angry with you
She Said: No
Spirit Said: Tell her about her magic
So I began to talk
I told her that I loved her anger and her fire.
I told her that it was hers and she gets to keep it.
I told her that I am not here to take it from her.
She sat up from the pillow and looked at me.
Brown eyes open, clear and bright,
shinning so, that I could see starlight.
So I poured into her more and more,
about what she is and what she’s here for.
Like I’ve never seen her do so before.
As I was talking, I realized that she is a magical being (yes of course, I “knew” that before) and that we have been talking to her in a language that she didn’t understand. She understands the language of power, and energy, and gifts, and magic, and medicine. But sometimes we communicate with her as if she does not LIVE in magic, and as if we are not magic too.
We are Creatives, Medicine Makers and Storytellers.
We are Seekers of Truth and Carriers of Connection.
Yet sometimes, we communicate with her as WE have been communicated with before - as if there were no magic in the world.
Imagine the subconscious reactions that are had, in her head when normally, we surround her with this magical energy, but when it comes to parenting, we fall into old patterns of communicating through the ego.
Does The ego not also lie in the belly of fear?
“The underlying emotion that governs all activity of the ego is fear.”
Eckhart Tolle: A New Earth
What happens is that when we are trying to get her to see it our way or “do as I say”, we drop our magical world “for her own good”, but how does she learn to use her magic without guidance? We ask her why she doesn’t understand that we’re trying to help her, and to show her the right path, but we do not understand that she will shut it out unless we sprinkle it with a little fairy dust.
How did I not see this sooner?
Well, sometimes, as parents, we forget our own magic from time to time, and it’s okay. But we are here to show them our struggles, so that they can learn that in this world, we have to work to stay connected in our magic.
We need to show them our gifts.
Let them know that we see theirs, and it’s beautiful.
We need to let them know that we are here
and that we understand
and that they have magic,
and that they are so, so, powerful,
and they are learning how to use it.
And that we are here to help guide them to be wise about when to use it and when to not use it, because wielding all that power, all the time, will only get them burned, but using it when they truly need it, will make them more powerful.
